The South Asian Bar Association of Northern California was founded to ensure that Bay Area South Asian lawyers were provided an avenue to develop professionally, network among peers and volunteer within the South Asian community. 

 

The mission of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California is to:

  • Promote alliances between South Asian legal professionals in Northern California and throughout the nation.
  • Advocate for the South Asian community.
  • Support those who value diversity in the legal profession.
  • Assist law students, and those interested in the law, with developing contacts with practitioners.
  • Provide information to members on careers and the legal market in Northern California.
  • Provide an avenue for professionals and other community leaders to take an interest in matters of concern to South Asian attorney.

Madhuri Nemali is an immigration attorney based in San Jose, CA, where her practice, Cameo Law Group, includes employment-based and family-based applications. Her previous positions were at non-profit organizations such as Apoyo Legal Migrante Asociado, the Katharine and Alexander George Community Law Center, and the International Institute of the Bay Area. Madhuri received her J.D. in 2011 from Santa Clara University’s School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from University of California, Davis, in 2008.

Anant Pradhan has represented clients in matters relating to the licensing, acquisition, development, and sale of technology and intellectual property. He has negotiated and drafted numerous technology related agreements, including master services, joint development, technology transfer, asset transfer, intellectual property selection, assignment, license, non-disclosure, confidentiality, end user license, support and maintenance, terms of use, and settlement agreements.
  
Mr. Pradhan also has extensive litigation experience which he leverages in his corporate advising. He has helped represent clients at the trial and appellate level in intellectual property matters across a broad range of industries including fetal diagnostics, DNA sequencing, data storage devices, semiconductors, and software protection. He was a member of the trial team in Digital Reg v. Adobe et al. where he was charged with preparing witnesses, drafting motions, managing exhibits, negotiating with opposing counsel and various other trial duties.  The efforts resulted in a jury verdict invalidating all asserted claims and findings of non-infringement..

Preeti K. Bajwa is a deputy attorney general at the Office of the Attorney General, California Department of Justice in San Francisco. She practices in the correctional law section, litigating allegations of constitutional violations by inmates. Prior to joining the Attorney General's office, Preeti worked as a deputy public defender in Santa Clara and Sacramento, and then ran her own law firm specializing in criminal defense and litigation. In her spare time, Preeti enjoys running, cooking and baking, and reading.

She assists Silicon Valley businesses with complex and sophisticated transactions and business law issues, including formation and operation, financing, mergers and acquisition, and restructuring of business entities. Before joining Hopkins & Carley in 2014, Aroma completed a Fellowship in Law & Entrepreneurship at NYU Law's Program for Law and Business. John-Paul (“JP”) Deol is an associate in Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP’s labor and employment practice group. JP represents employers in trade secret, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower, and wage-and-hour matters in state and federal courts. He also counsels clients on non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, as well as compliance with state and federal employment laws, and handles unfair labor practice charges and grievance arbitrations. JP maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in civil rights, asylum, and landlord-tenant litigation in state and federal courts throughout California, including at the appellate level.

Rishad also has experience in patent litigation, and patent prosecution and counseling. Prior to joining Kilpatrick, Rishad served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Julie E. Carnes for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He earned his JD from the University of Chicago and his BS from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Seema Bhatt is an Associate at Minami Tamaki, a San Francisco-based law firm serving clients in the areas of Consumer and Employment Rights, Corporate and Nonprofit Counseling, Immigration, Personal Injury, and Entertainment. Prior to that, she worked in Los Angeles as a personal injury and general litigation attorney where she was lead counsel on two jury trials and second counsel on two others. She also achieved and assisted in the negotiation of large settlements for her clients, including a 3 million dollar settlement with the City of Manhattan Beach. Seema received her J.D. cum laude in 2010 from Wake Forest Law School and a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Davis in 2007. After law school Seemavolunteered full-time with a non-profit in San Francisco working with domestic violence victims and other less fortunate families on issues involving family, immigration, elder, and tax law.

His practice focuses on employment defense, including counseling and litigation. Charan Brahma is a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP and focuses his practice on patent and other intellectual property litigation, appeals and counseling. He has represented leading technology, industrial and pharmaceutical clients in various federal district courts, the Federal Circuit, the Court of Federal Claims and in arbitration. He also serves on the Firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Life Sciences Industry team. 

Charan previously served as President-elect for SABA-DC.  He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association for the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Lowell School.

Charan received his J.D. from UC Hastings in 1999, as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He lives in Piedmont with his wife, Priti, and son, Arun.

Pawanpreet Kaur Dhaliwal is a Staff Attorney at the Sikh Coalition, the largest Sikh civil rights organization in the U.S. She provides direct legal services to the Sikh community in California, and supports the Sikh Coalition’s nationwide impact litigation and advocacy efforts related to combating hate, profiling, employment discrimination and religious rights abuses. Pawanpreet earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), and her Bachelor of Arts in Government from Harvard University.
