SABA-NC 21st Anniversary News
SABA-NC Celebrated its 21st Anniversary at the San Francisco Design Center on March 7, 2014. The Annual Gala is the premier event for South Asian attorneys in Northern California and regularly draws a diverse audience of judges, attorneys, law students, academics, politicians, South Asian community leaders and prominent members of the state, local and other minority Bar Associations. This year's event attracted a sold out crowd, including Judges, attorneys and law students. This year's theme of strengthening the SABA network found good resonance with the crowd, by bringing together the members of the South Asian community. SABA-NC Co-Presidents Akshay Verma and Maulik Shah extolled the activities of various committees of SABA, including its foundation arm - SABA-NC Foundation, a 501(c)(3)organization which provides public interest fellowships to law students committed to serving the South Asian community. Prominent attorneys from South Asian community were recognized by SABA for their contributions to legal community. The awardees include:

SABA-NC expressed its gratitude to numerous volunteer attorneys who participate and help run its various pro-bono clinics.

The South Asian Bar Association – Northern California chapter (“SABA-NC”) was founded in 1993 to ensure that Bay Area South Asian lawyers were provided an avenue to develop professionally, network among peers and volunteer within the South Asian community. Since then, SABA has organized MCLE events, monthly luncheons, happy hours, and mentorship events for its members, hosted the SABA annual banquet, supported and hosted fundraiser's for South Asian community support and social service organizations, and advertised, facilitated, and encouraged members to provide pro bono legal services to those in need.
- Promote alliances between South Asian legal professionals in Northern California and throughout the nation.
- Advocate for the South Asian community.
- Support those who value diversity in the legal profession.
- Assist law students, and those interested in the law, with developing contacts with practitioners.
- Provide information to members on careers and the legal market in Northern California.
- Provide an avenue for professionals and other community leaders to take an interest in matters of concern to South Asian attorneys.
